I haven’t had much to say about the new Porsche 911 4S because frankly I’m speechless. There was no time to compartmentalize my thoughts or even form a sentence after I saw this car because I’ve been so awestruck with wonder over the launch of this marvelous Porsche design, with it’s nod to Porsche history.
Thinking back to the 2013 Porsche 911 Targa 4S I saw recently in Vero Beach, fast forward to a new Porsche design and I’m frozen, waiting for the smoke to settle between my ears, the quiver to stop in my hand and the drooling to stop.
The quote from their launch video “If you’re going to have a roof over your head, better make it an amazing one” I want that roof! I have spent a great deal of time examining the original 1969 Porsche Targa roof with my hand – and by examining it I mean running my eye longingly over every curve. However with the new Porsche Targa with a retractable roof design it’s like something out of a Philip K. Dick novel.
It’s quite strange but I find that as I settle into this idea of the new Targa, my lips still don’t want to talk. And frankly if someone were to give me the keys I’d be speechless and paralyzed with joy. And even if I did have a passenger driving one there wouldn’t be much talking in the presence of genius design and engineering, it feels like a church.
It’s a car that only requires feel, focus, and listening. Admire the hum of the tires on asphalt as they sing. The paddle shifters being plucked by your middle fingers. The only sound you might hear won’t be voices, it’ll be your heart pounding out of your chest like a freight train.
